American SpeedFest returned to Brands Hatch in spectacular fashion with two NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES) races on the Indy circuit, and a surprise appearance from 'Donald Trump', who officially opened the event.
Trump impersonator Mike Osman kicked things off with a dramatic opening as he was flown into the middle of the circuit in a helicopter by MSV Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer. 'Trump' and his entourage then travelled to the front of the grid by motorcade to launch the opening ceremony and grid walk with a speech.
Following the speech, a mass of SpeedFest race fans descended upon the grid for photo opportunities, autographs, and the chance to sample the pre-race atmosphere.
The racing that followed was fantastic as Gianmarco Ercoli charged to his first Elite 1 NWES win after a hard fought battle with Marc Goossens and Alon Day. The three nearly came together on the final lap and it was Ercoli that emerged first from the three-way drag race down the back straight to claim track position and eventual victory.
Aside from the headline NASCAR action, there was loads going on, from a foot-long hot dog eating competition, to a Live Action Arena hosted by American superbike star James Rispoli. Other highlights included dinosaur shows - they're not quite extinct - and appearances from Star Wars characters, with plenty of live music, headlined by California band Lucky Tongue.
