The 1997 F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve has confirmed he will race full-time in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series in 2019, meaning he will be a star addition to the line-up for American SpeedFest 7 at Brands Hatch on 1-2 June 2019.
Villeneuve, also a former Indy 500 and CART winner, will compete with the Go Fas Racing team in the 2019 season following a two-day evaluation of the Euro NASCAR machine at the Autodromo di Franciacorta in Italy on 13-14 December.
The French Canadian already has NASCAR experience having competed in all three of NASCAR's major National Series and in the Pinty's Series in Canada.
Villeneuve will be the first former F1 Champion to compete full-time in the Euro NASCAR series, and commented: "I had a lot of fun discovering the car because it is really similar to what I was used to in NASCAR in the US. You can really drive it hard and you can work a lot on the car and that is also very nice.
"Returning full-time is what matters the most to me, because I want to be part of a complete project and have a goal for the entire season. I'm really looking forward to the first race of 2019!"
NASCAR Whelen Euro Series President-CEO Jerome Galpin added: "Having Jacques aboard is a huge piece of news for everybody involved in Euro NASCAR; our fans, partners and teams! The series continues to grow and to gather everybody having passion for pure racing, whether they are World Champion drivers or fans attending our events. The 2019 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series promises to be the most exciting of any European series!"
