Thousands of fans attended the inaugural American SpeedFest at
Brands Hatch last weekend (Sunday 9 June). Following an
overwhelmingly positive response from spectators, car clubs and
racers, a date has already been announced for 2014.
Next year's event will take place on the provisional weekend of 7/8 June, and will again be headlined by the only officially sanctioned NASCAR event outside the USA - the Euro Racecar NASCAR Touring Series.
George Silbermann, NASCAR Regional and Touring Series Vice President, flew over from Daytona to attend the inaugural American SpeedFest and is delighted it will return: "It feels like I'm at home!" he said. "We hope all our other events follow Brands Hatch's lead: this is the perfect model. We're putting together the calendar for next year's schedule and Brands Hatch is a big part of it. We'll definitely be back again and again."
Jerome Galpin, General Manager of the Euro-Racecar NASCAR Touring Series, said: "This is definitely our biggest road course event and it's only going to get bigger. We are very, very happy with it."
David Willey, Motorsport Events Manager for Brands Hatch owners MSV said: "What an event! Our first American SpeedFest was a roaring success and we've been taken aback by the volume of comments from spectators telling us how much they enjoyed it, and that it was a fantastic day out for families. We're determined to make the event bigger and better next year, and we promise we'll put on an even more spectacular show!"
Almost 1,000 classic American cars were on display around the venue on Sunday, together with 50 special cars made famous by Hollywood movies, including the DeLorean from Back to the Future and the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard. Two monster trucks performed during the event, including one offering passenger rides to the public, whilst Elvis and the Flashbacks provided the musical soundtrack.
Fans were treated to great entertainment on the racetrack from the Euro NASCARS, plus there were Pickup Trucks, classic American race cars in 'Bernie's V8s' series and much more. Fans were offered unprecedented access to the drivers and racing cars with free pit walks and autograph sessions, a grid walk before the first NASCAR race and access to the 'Victory Lane' podium ceremonies.
The Brands Hatch American SpeedFest will be back in 2014 for the whole weekend of 7/8 June. For more details as they're announced keep coming back to this website!
